How does “Idaho Rob” tuning and the EFILive system work?

First step is to order your EFILive V2 Scan and Tune tool and the level of tuning you require from ATPTrucks. Next you will download the EFILive software from the EFILive.com website. Go to the downloads tab, click on ‘Downloads’ then download V7.5 and V8.2. When those are complete follow the directions for ‘check for new updates’.

Start button>all programs>EFILive>V7.5(V8.2)>tools>check for new updates. Do this for both versions and you will be ready to register your V2 tool once it arrives. Upon arrival of your V2 tool you will follow the directions for registering your new V2 tool, be certain to read and follow those directions and be certain to utilize the information and ‘issue date’ that is on the blue sheet that is in the V2 tool packaging. After registering you V2 tool you will be able to connect to your truck and copy your stock tune. Follow the instructions sent by Rob to accomplish this. Email this tune file along with all of the information about your truck to rob@atptrucks.com. Be certain to include all modifications to your exhaust, intake, engine, transmission, gear ratios, fuel tank, lift pump, tire size and any other modification that could influence the custom tuning for your truck. Rob will build your requested tunes and email your custom tune file to you. Follow the instructions sent with your tune file to flash your truck with your new tuning.

Does "Idaho Rob" build all the tune files?

Yes, Rob still builds all tunes himself, customized to your truck and your requests.

How will EFILive tuning effect my fuel mileage?

Every truck responds differently but we typically hear that our customers see a 20% to 30% increase in fuel mileage.

What tune levels are safe for a DSP5 set-up on my truck with stock Allison transmission?

Tune levels vary for each model year of Duramax and Allison transmission combination. The following is a rough outline:

2001 – 2004 LB7 with stock 5 speed Allison
1) optimized stock 2) 20 H.P. heavy tow 3) 50 H.P. light tow 4) 85 H.P. street 5) 110 H.P. street

2004.5 – 2005 LLY with stock 5 speed Allison
1) optimized stock 2) 20 H.P. heavy tow with turbo brake 3) 50 H.P. light tow with turbo brake 4) 85 H.P. street 5) 110 H.P. street

2006 – 2007 LBZ with stock 6 speed Allison
1) optimized stock 2) 20 H.P. heavy tow with turbo brake 3) 50 H.P. light tow with turbo brake 4) 85 H.P. or 110 H.P. street 5) 110 H.P. or 150 H.P. street

2007.5 – 2010 LMM with stock 6 speed Allison
1) optimized stock 2) 20 H.P. heavy tow with turbo brake 3) 50 H.P. light tow with turbo brake 4) 85 H.P. or 110 H.P. street 5) 110 H.P. or 150 H.P. street

The max level 5 tunes listed may cause a transmission limp condition under certain conditions or in transmissions with high mileage.

What level of tuning is available for my modified truck?

Tune levels vary greatly depending on the level of modifications completed on your truck. The EFILive product that we sell and tune with is capable of tuning a stock truck and our 1300 H.P. plus race truck. The tuning is truly infinite and is limited by your trucks components. No stacking is necessary as EFILive does not fool the ECM and injector fuel system it changes the table values contained within the ECM’s memory. In this manner EFILive is capable of adjusting for most any modification available.

I have a stock Duramax truck, what do you recommend for sensible modifications?

This depends on what your goals are for your truck and how you use your truck. As with all modifications EPA regulations and local emissions testing should be understood. We always start with the EFILive tuning, an exhaust kit depending on year and model, a lift pump and then an intake.

What does a lift pump accomplish?

We recommend a lift pump with air entrainment separation for all applications as this will assist with the life of your trucks injectors and your trucks CP3. This is accomplished because the lift pump separates some of the entrained air from the fuel, separates some of the water contained in the fuel and sends this conditioned fuel under pressure to the CP3. Therefore your CP3 works more efficiently allowing it to last longer and work better. This conditioned fuel then enters the injectors creating a better cushioning within the injectors which will increase the life of the injectors. Finally, this conditioned fuel will atomize and burn more efficiently which results in better performance and fuel mileage. We recommend the AirDog II 165 for most applications.
