Duramax LML AirDog II 4G Lift Pump Review

(You will want to check out the AirDog demo at the bottom of this post)

Test vehicle: 2013 GMC LML with all factory emissions in place.

Project LML Duramax: Factory Emissions Equipped

Up to this point the truck is fun to drive and responsive but was lacking the needed fuel for more than dyno numbers.  I tested at the track before the lift pump install.

The same tune that made 500HP on the dyno without a lift pump didn't perform on the 1/4 mile. The truck dropped rail pressure badly about 3rd gear and didn't recover for most of the run resulting in 14.2's with 2.0 second, 60' times.

ATP Project LML MBRP Downpipe Install Results Part 2

Test vehicle: 2013 GMC LML with all factory emissions in place.

To recap our previous testing please check out our first Project LML Duramax blog post:

The horsepower claim for the MBRP downpipe is 21hp and 24ft lbs. We will see how this piggy backs on the current mods with HP tune and the S&B intake.

MBRGM8427 Duramax LML Downpipe - Stock vs Aftermarket

I can tell you the downpipe install on this Duramax is not for the faint of heart. The install is much easier if done in conjunction with a transmission/converter install. Having the transmission out of the way really speeds things up and is much easier on the knuckles and the frustration level.

Even with the transmission out of the way, the install still took about 3 hours.  This wasn’t straight time as I dealt with a few interruptions along the way, but a good baseline none-the-less.

  • Tow/Haul Mode Explained

    Tow Haul Mode Eplained

What happens when you push the Tow/Haul button?

You already know that heavy duty diesel trucks are ideal for towing but you might not know what Tow/Haul mode is or how it works.  Using this mode properly can improve your towing experience and you might even like the way it affects your daily driving.

    Tow/Haul Mode Explained…

Beginning in 2001 with the Duramax engine and Allison transmission combo in GM trucks, GM included a new feature called Tow/Haul.  You can activate this feature by pressing the button at the end of the shift lever to make the towing process more enjoyable and safer.

When the Tow/Haul mode is engaged a few things happen.
The shift pattern of your truck changes. The lockup of the torque converter happens at a lower RPM and it applies a much more aggressive downshift pattern when the brakes are engaged.

Let’s take a closer look at each of these…

  • Data Logging with EFILive AutoCal and V2

    How To Datalog with EFILive

EFILive data logging your Duramax or Cummins truck can be a valuable and helpful instrument in your diesel toolbox.

In this article we’ll give you step-by-step instructions on how to datalog with EFILive.

Logging can help diagnose and troubleshoot a problem, identify cylinder health, and ensure your diesel truck is running at peak performance.

    However, It’s Not Magic…

A data log will not pinpoint the exact issue you are having or tell you specifically how to fix or improve performance or the steps to take to identify an issue. That would be amazing but magic isn’t real. ;-)

What it can do is record system specific details that may provide enough information to point you in the right system area to begin troubleshooting.

    Here’s an example:
